EurafricaTrail

Intercontinental

Eurafrica is the dream of uniting the two shores of the Strait of Gibraltar. To tell the story of this historic, remote, and unique place through a multi-stage mountain race. Our aim is to connect the cultures and nature of this territory through sport.

It’s been ten years since the Eurafrica Trail began, and after nine editions, we still hold the same excitement and commitment to visiting and showcasing the villages, mountains, and trails of the Strait.

For 2025, our main new feature is the introduction, for the first time, of a semi-night stage in the Málaga at Estación de Gaucín. This new half marathon will also debut a new route and will undoubtedly become a strategic highlight of the entire event. We will also invest in improving participant services, maintaining the 4-star Marina Smir hotel as Camp Africa, and introducing new ideas such as Hospitality Areas in the Camps, where we’ll host various
activities, along with physiotherapy services for recovery after stages 2 and 4.

The race will begin with the distribution of welcome packs in Tarifa (Cádiz) on Thursday, October 30th. From there, we’ll head to Gibraltar in the early afternoon for the first stage:
the Gibraltar Vertical Race, 5K with 500m of elevation gain. We’ll also celebrate the opening ceremony in the beautiful St. Michael’s Cave.

On Friday, October 31st, we’ll enjoy the village of Estación de Gaucín, in the municipality of Cortes de la Frontera (Málaga), where we’ll run a new semi-night stage (21 km) through the natural parks of Grazalema and Alcornocales. Expect rocky paths, forest trails along the Guadiaro River, steep climbs, and traditional cork extraction routes—an age-old industry in the area.

On Saturday, November 1st, a stunning half marathon awaits us in the Mediterranean forests of Los Alcornocales Natural Park in Algeciras (Cádiz), with technical trails, fast tracks, and breathtaking views of the Strait. This third stage offers 21 km and 1,100m of elevation gain. From there, we’ll head back to Tarifa and board the ferry to the African continent, arriving first at the port of Tangier and then continuing by bus to Camp Africa in M’Diq.

On Sunday, November 2nd, we’ll return to the small kabila of Belwazen in Morocco’s Rif region, where we’ll run a spectacular and explosive stage in the Fasml Jaar mountains, through small villages, valleys, and farmlands. The summit of the stage is Jbel Abyad (White Mountain), a viewpoint over the entire Strait. It’s a beautiful half marathon with 21 km and
1,650m of elevation gain through the Rif mountains.

On Monday, November 3rd, we’ll enjoy one last short, spectacular stage along the coast and mountains of the M’Diq–Fnideq area, between Tetouan and Tangier. A grand finale of 13.5 km and 600m of elevation gain to wrap up the 2025 edition of Eurafrica.

That Monday afternoon, we’ll cross the 14 maritime kilometers of the Strait once again, returning by ferry from Tangier to Tarifa, bringing to an end this great five-day adventure across three cultures and two continents.

Isn’t it an exciting journey? A week of shared experiences, cultural exchange, and racing—an adventure to remember
for a lifetime.

Departure location: Est. de Gaucín (Cortes de la Frontera)
Place: Station
Departure time: 17:30h

In the corner of the map where the middle passage of the Guadiaro River, the provinces of Cadiz and Malaga, and the limits of the natural parks of Grazalema and Alcornocales meet, is the village of Estación de Gaucin, home of our second in 2025. You will enjoy technical areas with limestone rock, fast tracks and other technical trail sections between forests, which will delight all profiles of runners. In the planned route we will be fortunate to run along the banks of the river of gold (Guadiaro), passing through emblematic places such as the Cañón de la Buitrera, with the added bonus of passing through numerous cork harvesting trails between the start in Estación de Gaucín and Cortes de la Frontera. A Malaga stage between stone and forest, which for the first time in Eurafrica, will host the night stage of our 10th edition.

STAGE 3
SELVA DE CÁDIZ

Day: Saturday, November 1, 2025
Departure location: Algeciras
Place: Albergue de Inturjoven de Pelayo
Departure time: 09:00h
Distance: 20 Kilometers
Positive elevation gain: + – 1.100m

Those of us who have organized Eurafrica from the beginning are from Algeciras, and we are especially excited to be able to tell you about the natural heritage that our city and our home environment can offer to the mountain runner. With the canutos (small Mediterranean streams of the Alcornocales), the ferns, and the breathtaking views of the Strait as protagonists, a beautiful half marathon awaits you in the mountains of Algeciras, linking historical trails in Eurafrica. This fast and “electric” stage passes through familiar places such as the Río de la Miel, Puerto de la Higuera or Cortafuegos del Pico Vacas. A trip through the cloud forests of Cadiz, an unexpected jungle where the fog reigns more than 200 days a year.

STAGE 4
JBEL ABYAD

Day: Sunday, November 2, 2025
Departure location: Belwazen
Place: Belwazen Mosque
Departure time: 09:00
Distance: 21 Kilometers
Elevation gain: +- 1.100m

The already mythical Mont Blanc, or Jbel Abyad in Arabic, is a limestone mass that greets the Mediterranean from its nearly 800 meters high. At the foot of this mountain, in Belwazen, a beautiful rifeña kabila where children and adults await us every year with illusion, we will celebrate the queen stage of Eurafrica, for its technical characteristics and hardness. A spectacular half-marathon, with climbs and technical terrain, other runnable stretches and trails that connect the farmlands and small villages of this region. A new stage that will be memorable for all of you.

FINAL STAGE
M'DIQ

Day: Monday, November 3, 2025
Departure location: Province M’Diq – Fnideq
Place: M’Diq Promenade
Departure time: 08:30
Distance: 11 Kilometers
Elevation gain: +600m

If you look for fast and fun stage in the dictionary, you will find this final colophon in the cliffs and mountains of Cabo Negro, a small peninsula next to the fishing village of M’Diq, where we will enjoy the welcome of the inhabitants of this town, with start and finish in its popular promenade. A fast, explosive stage, which will put the finishing touch in Morocco and in the Strait to the tenth edition of Eurafrica Trail.
