Intercontinental
Eurafrica is the dream of uniting the two shores of the Strait of Gibraltar. To tell the story of this historic, remote, and unique place through a multi-stage mountain race. Our aim is to connect the cultures and nature of this territory through sport.
It’s been ten years since the Eurafrica Trail began, and after nine editions, we still hold the same excitement and commitment to visiting and showcasing the villages, mountains, and trails of the Strait.
For 2025, our main new feature is the introduction, for the first time, of a semi-night stage in the Málaga at Estación de Gaucín. This new half marathon will also debut a new route and will undoubtedly become a strategic highlight of the entire event. We will also invest in improving participant services, maintaining the 4-star Marina Smir hotel as Camp Africa, and introducing new ideas such as Hospitality Areas in the Camps, where we’ll host various
activities, along with physiotherapy services for recovery after stages 2 and 4.
The race will begin with the distribution of welcome packs in Tarifa (Cádiz) on Thursday, October 30th. From there, we’ll head to Gibraltar in the early afternoon for the first stage:
the Gibraltar Vertical Race, 5K with 500m of elevation gain. We’ll also celebrate the opening ceremony in the beautiful St. Michael’s Cave.
On Friday, October 31st, we’ll enjoy the village of Estación de Gaucín, in the municipality of Cortes de la Frontera (Málaga), where we’ll run a new semi-night stage (21 km) through the natural parks of Grazalema and Alcornocales. Expect rocky paths, forest trails along the Guadiaro River, steep climbs, and traditional cork extraction routes—an age-old industry in the area.
On Saturday, November 1st, a stunning half marathon awaits us in the Mediterranean forests of Los Alcornocales Natural Park in Algeciras (Cádiz), with technical trails, fast tracks, and breathtaking views of the Strait. This third stage offers 21 km and 1,100m of elevation gain. From there, we’ll head back to Tarifa and board the ferry to the African continent, arriving first at the port of Tangier and then continuing by bus to Camp Africa in M’Diq.
On Sunday, November 2nd, we’ll return to the small kabila of Belwazen in Morocco’s Rif region, where we’ll run a spectacular and explosive stage in the Fasml Jaar mountains, through small villages, valleys, and farmlands. The summit of the stage is Jbel Abyad (White Mountain), a viewpoint over the entire Strait. It’s a beautiful half marathon with 21 km and
1,650m of elevation gain through the Rif mountains.
On Monday, November 3rd, we’ll enjoy one last short, spectacular stage along the coast and mountains of the M’Diq–Fnideq area, between Tetouan and Tangier. A grand finale of 13.5 km and 600m of elevation gain to wrap up the 2025 edition of Eurafrica.
That Monday afternoon, we’ll cross the 14 maritime kilometers of the Strait once again, returning by ferry from Tangier to Tarifa, bringing to an end this great five-day adventure across three cultures and two continents.
Isn’t it an exciting journey? A week of shared experiences, cultural exchange, and racing—an adventure to remember
for a lifetime.
