EurafricaTrail

Enviromental Criteria-Points

Throughout our nine editions, we have considered numerous factors aimed at improving the sustainability of our race, reducing its footprint, and promoting awareness of natural heritage.
As part of the process initiated by Eurafrica for the 2024 edition in pursuit of the Green Label certification, the race organization has taken the following decisions and actions to meet the environmental quality standards required:
• The race is scheduled during a time of year when the impact on the flora and fauna of the Alcornocales Natural Park is minimal (taking into account nesting periods and wildfire risk).
• The starting point is located within an urban area.
• A large portion of the route passes through well-established areas with no erosion issues.
• The entire course follows existing trails or tracks.
• The race takes place exclusively during daylight hours.
• A maximum number of 200 participants has been set, with the approval of environmental authorities.
• Vegetation along the trails will not be cut, cleared, or damaged for the event.
• The final track will not be published until two weeks prior to the event, and only via email to registered participants.
• We will share relevant environmental information through the event’s official channels and include it in the runner’s guide.
• Spectators and companions will be included as a key group in awareness efforts and the promotion of good practices for enjoying the natural surroundings.
• We will use reusable markers and flags.
• Aid stations will be located in easily accessible areas.
• We actively promote the fight against plastic.
• Recycling stations will be installed for waste sorting.
• Our volunteers will receive environmental training.
• We will implement a waste minimization plan, monitoring the amount of each type of waste generated during the event in order to make future improvements and reduce waste as much as possible.
• An Environmental Monitoring and Control Plan will be in place, tracking established environmental indicators.
• A carbon footprint compensation program will be implemented.
• The organization is committed to canceling the race if wildfire risk levels, as forecast on the official website of the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET) the day before the event, are rated as “very high” or “extreme.”
