EurafricaTrail

Recommendations

To ensure the proper development of the event for everyone involved, we offer the following environmental recommendations for runners and supporters:

RUNNERS
✓We kindly ask all runners to consider these guidelines not only during the race, but also when visiting the area for training before and after the event.
✓ Respect the environment. Do not damage natural, geological, or cultural resources.
✓ Stick to the route established and marked by the organization. Stay on the main trail and avoid secondary paths. Do not take shortcuts or cut corners across open terrain.
✓ Do not litter (waste, wrappers, food, or gear). Dispose of any trash only at designated locations.
✓ Report any negligent environmental behavior by other runners.
✓ It is mandatory to label energy gels, bars, etc., with your race bib number.
✓ Avoid shouting during the race. Stay as quiet as possible.
✓ Refrain from stepping into sensitive wetland areas such as ponds, streams, or bogs.
✓ The organization has implemented a waste minimization and selective collection program — please deposit waste in the designated containers.
✓ We’ve declared a “war on plastic” — and it’s embedded in our race logistics. Please follow this example.
✓ Smoking is strictly prohibited during high fire-risk periods (when the Infoca Fire Prevention Plan is active), both before and after the race.
✓ Public transport is available to reach both Algeciras and Pelayo. You can check schedules on the public bus website: https://siu.ctmcg.es/horarios.php and the Renfe train site: https://www.renfe.com/es/es, with connections to cities such as Madrid, Córdoba, and Antequera.
✓ We encourage carpooling among runners, family, and friends to reduce our environmental impact and be more sustainable.

SUPPORTERS
✓ Cheering zones: The Inturjoven Hostel and the El Cobre aid station have been designated as the main supporter points to reduce traffic in the most environmentally sensitive areas of the route.
✓ Parking areas: We recommend that all attendees (family, friends, runners) park their vehicles in Pelayo (near Restaurante Las Piedras – Huerta Grande) or at El Bujeo Recreational Area. Both are just a 5-minute walk from the hostel and offer ample parking.
✓ Consult the race organization to identify the best places and times to watch runners pass. Avoid areas that could be environmentally affected.
✓ Drive responsibly and avoid speeding in urban areas and within the protected natural area.
✓ Take this opportunity to learn about the natural and cultural values of the protected area. You can find information on our website.
✓ It is strictly forbidden to disturb livestock, wildlife, or plant species, or to intentionally collect or damage any plants (including flowers, fruits, etc.).
✓ Stay on established trails and paths. Do not walk across open terrain.
✓ The organization has implemented a waste minimization and recycling program — please use the appropriate bins.
✓ Depending on weather conditions, there may be a high fire risk — please take extreme care.
✓ The organization is committed to canceling the event if the forest fire risk level, as published by Spain’s official meteorological agency (AEMET) the day before the race, is rated as “very high” or “extreme.”
✓ Smoking is strictly prohibited during high fire-risk periods (when the Infoca Plan is active), both before and after the race.
✓ Public transport is available to access both Algeciras and Pelayo. Check the public bus site: https://siu.ctmcg.es/horarios.php and the Renfe train site: https://www.renfe.com/es/ es for connections from cities such as Madrid, Córdoba, and Antequera.
✓ We encourage carpooling among supporters, family, and runners to reduce our environmental impact and promote greater sustainability.
